Prendergast Year 5/6 rugby boys went to Neyland RFC to partake in the Urdd Rugby Tournament. The boys showed their class throughout the day, only allowing 1 try to be scored against them. They utilised true Prendergast values by displaying the highest level of respect towards the referee and the opposing teams. The boys breezed through the tournament winning most games by 5 tries to 0 ending the matches in the first half. Following this success, Prendergast Rugby team went on to represent Pembrokeshire once again in the Urdd Finals in Aberystwyth. The competition increased as the boys faced some of their toughest games to date! They lost one game in the group stages meaning they would leave the pool as runners up. Prendergast boys found themselves in a quarter final. After a slow start they found themselves 4 - 0 down! They boys dug deep and came back to win the game 5-4. The semi-finals were long and tiring with the final score being 4-4. Extra time also saw a tie of 6-6. With a dead lock in place the boys gave one final push towards the line and finally found a try allowing us to move on to the finals! They had given their all with one final game to go. The finals started in a similar fashion with a defensive lap allowing an easy try to be conceived. The boys fought back to draw the game and looked a formidable focus until the half time whistle. After a long day the boy’s energy levels came to an end with the fresher team taking advantage in the second half. The boys gave everything they had throughout the day. They made the school, their coach and their parents very proud.
Pictured below is our Rugby team proudly displaying The Alan Griffiths Trophy. The boys were representing Pembrokeshire at the National 10 a side competition held at Dunvant RFC and were undefeated throughout the competition, losing out on a place in the Cup final by the toss of a coin. We are extremely proud of the boys who showed great skill and determination.
We have had great fun celebrating World Book Day. We've had a selection of fantastic characters in school today from Harry Potter to Horrid Henry to Matilda to Paddington Bear! All of the children made a super effort and they all looked great! The Reading Ambassadors had a hard task judging the fancy dress competition.
We joined in the National Share a Story event by holding our very own Teacher Swap and swapping classes to share a story for 10 minutes.
The children also enjoyed exploring their reading limits by completing the Reach for the Stars Reading Challenge.
A big thank you to all children, parents and careers for the donated books for our lucky dip prizes and also for the continued support shown for school events.
