  • Mrs Davies's Blog Week 7

    Fri 21 Oct 2016 Mrs D Davies

We have reached half term and I wish everyone - children , staff and parents a really good break. We have so much to celebrate together regarding the achievement of our children over these past few weeks.

This week has been particularly busy. It started really early  on Monday for our Y4 children who left school at 7.30 am to visit Caerleon . They carried on with Roman life dressed in togas and experienced a Roman day yesterday, not everyone enjoyed the foods on offer!

Other Values treats for the end of half term have included Hot Dog treats, Furry Friends Feasting, Teddy Bears Picnic, Dino Big Day, Fairytale Film Day, DVD and Popcorn fun. Our Discos were very popular yesterday evening  - we must thank DJ JV!!!                   -

Our Year 6 learners have experienced many Science workshops this week and we look forward to our whole school Science week after half term.

Well done to our Tag Rugby team who played so well earlier in the week  and thank you to all the hundreds of parents who have spent time in school over the past four days meeting with teachers.

Please pass on all our safety messages to our young people as we enter this very busy, yet potentially dangerous time of year. We have spoken to the children about the need to have fun but keep safe when out and about.

Good Luck to Mrs Dunlop, our Deputy Headteacher, who will be teaching with our partners in Germany next week!

    Happy Half Term!

  • Mrs Davies's Blog Week 6

    Fri 14 Oct 2016 MrS D. Davies

Upon walking along the Infant corridor yesterday, there was a real excitement from our little people who told me that this week was a "fab" week at school - I can only agree with them.

Our newly appointed School Council members experienced Boot Camp and are now ready to take on the Leadership challenge. Cllrs Wynne Evans and Sue Murray joined in for part of this session as they shared Democracy  Week with us, everyone learned new things. Our Values, without doubt, were core to everything.

Some fantastic History  work is ongoing in Y3 and Y4, both our Year 3 classes had  a super time at Castell Henllys and Y4 look forward to their Roman adventure on Monday - remember an early start please.

I would like to thank all those invited parents who attended Monday's  APPs meeting with Miss Parry and Mr Golding and I know that they look forward to working with you. Thanks also to those parents who form our Strategic Group and spent yesterday afternoon working very hard on school self evaluation and improvement priorities. Remember please - Parents Evenings begin next week.

Many Congratulations to our Cross Country Team who ran at Oakwood  yesterday, it was a splendid team effort. A special mention must be given for our Year 4 Boys team who returned to school with the Winners Cup!

The school celebrated the Harvest earlier today, a celebration led by Father Geoff, sadly, his last Harvest celebration here at school before retiring. You can listen to some of our classes sing by navigating towards the community link - wider community on our website.

Well Done Everyone - our whole school attendance for September was 96.1% despite so many sore throats and illnesses. A particular Well Done to 1DJ for achieving 98.43% attendance during last month.

It has been a very busy week with our Maths Makes Sense and Read Write Inc Development Days as well as Governors Week and Parents Open Evening with various workshops - I thank everyone for their contributions.

We look forward to Evie and Gabriel leading the school in the roles as Chairperson and Vice Chair of the School Council and Sanuka and Leah as Super Ambassadors.

Mollie and Osian received their Bronze Ambassador training today and are ready to set us off on LAPS challenge.

Our inter house Cross Country was won by Wellington -  well done!

The highlight of the week has to be the visit of Ronnie the T Rex, who spent special time with Year 1. What an amazing time they have had finding out about these wonderful creatures - please check out the Year 1 pages on the website to see Ronnie.

There seem to be a number of lessons this half term which have focussed on poo !!!

  • School Council News

Mon 03 Oct 2016 Mr Voros

Our new school councillors have now been elected. The whole school entered into "Election Fever" on Thursday!

Children had the opportunity to present a speech to their classes saying how they would represent their class as part of the School Council this year.

The children then had opportunity to take part in a secret ballot vote in the School Hall. We will have a photo and full listing of the new council members here soon. We spoke to Evie and Gabe, the Chair and Vice-Chair of the Council to get their first thoughts:
