  • Mrs D Davies Summer Term Week 2

    Fri 27 Apr 2018 Mrs D Davies

What an exciting week it has been at school, culminating in a super Community assembly led by 5E all about Article 14, Rights of the Child whereby the boys and girls encouraged us to think about our choices, decisions and rights. Thank you to all the families who attended - it was great to see so many of you. Well done 5E!

Our children have enjoyed a wealth of visits and visitors this week - Year3 visited Castell Henllys, Year 1 enjoyed Folly Farm on a very wet day and WPC Jennie Thomas has worked with our Key Stage 2 classes as part of our Police Liaison Programme . Many of our Y4/5 parents  participated in a "walkthorough" the National Tests session, led by Miss Harte.

Our older children have produced some excellent research work as part of the recently introduced Genius Hour sessions     - Molly and James, for example, found out about the workings of a kidney and independently produced an artificial kidney!!

Today ( Friday) the children in Years 2-6 will bring home a letter regarding the National Tests. The testing period  is 2nd - 9th May and we plan to administer these statutory tests over three days beginning Wednesday 2nd May. I am keen to inform our parents that these tests are only a snapshot of how our children perform with the test on the day. They are well prepared for the tests , we don't want them to worry. The tests results do not tell us how hard they work, how engaged they are in learning nor how well they demonstrate our Values. Our children are amazing and we should feel so proud of them, everyday they surprise staff with their greatness. Just today Ella and Anna showed me the most amazing homework they have produced on zones of the oceans , working for hours at home and school to complete wonderful work - we have such examples very day, let us remember that National Tests results do not capture such super learning

    moments.

    Have a good weekend everybody.

  • Mrs D Davies Summer Term 1

    Fri 20 Apr 2018 Mrs D Davies

We welcome everyone back to the Summer Term. It will be a very busy half term ahead. We have had an enjoyable few days at school with some special points to mention.

Throughout the week, we have settled our Nursery newbies into the afternoon sessions and have demonstrated what "big" little people they are - well done!  Well Done also to all our other newbies who have joined various classes throughout the school. A big welcome to you all as you become a special member in your new school family.

Our Year 5 and 6 classes visited Haverfordwest VC Gallery on Thursday  and this was without doubt, one of the highlights of our week. Senior staff report as to how wonderful the experience was for both our children and the artists involved. We are fortunate to be able to work with such a talented group of local, creative partners.

We are grateful to all those parents of Year 2 and 3 children who joined Miss Harte at school for a workshop session in order to "walkthrough" the National Reading Tests. There will be another session next week for parents of Year 4 and 5 .

We encourage excellent attendance this term, it is a very important term for transition, testing and assessment and we want all of our children to demonstrate that which they have learned throughout the year. The National Testing period will soon begin ( at the start of May) and we hope that our children in Years 2-6 will be at ease and confident in approaching the tests.

Well Done to all our Lego Club children and parents - what a good session today, many thanks to our TAF partners and Miss Harries for leading this.

I would remind you that Miss P Parry is our interim Deputy Headteacher and ALNCo (Additional Needs Coordinator)  - our Thursday morning Drop In Clinic will continue.
