    Dear Parent/Carer,

I write as half term approaches to congratulate all of our children for such a successful few weeks at school.  Covid restrictions are still generally all in place and the children have just continued to engage with enthusiasm in their learning despite the challenges.

I thank you as parents also for the respectful manner in how you present on school site, ensuring that we all aim to keep each other safe. Welsh Government guidance as yet has offered little lessening of restrictions with the exception, that from this week our Foundation Phase classes are able to return to a more normal layout of seating arrangements/classroom areas of learning.

There are some provisions which have adapted to be Covid friendly which have resumed this half term outside classroom learning e.g.

    • Our Year Five children have completed the Safe Cycling Programme with Pembrokeshire County Council.
    • Year One children have completed the Kerbcraft Programme with Pembrokeshire County Council.
    • Musical tuition has continued for our musicians across the school.
    • Transition from Year 6 –Year 7 is well underway with Haverfordwest High V.C..  Our classes have already visited school site for “Walkthrough” sessions.
    • PC Jennie Thomas has continued with her Police Liaison Programme – delivering face to face practice on site.
    • Our school photographer has taken individual photographs of our children.

Planning ahead for next half term, we shall know that at this point, we are unable to make any final decisions around days out/special events/sports days etc..  We had dearly hoped to allow small numbers of parents on site to share some activities, however, at the current time, we are unable to plan for this.  Hopefully, updated Welsh Government Operational Guidance will arrive to clarify the way forward in the near future.

During the next month, our school Governors will be recruiting a new Headteacher for as early as possible in the next academic year.  You will be updated regarding this.

I hope our whole school topic “Celebrations” will promote a great end of another difficult school year for many.

Have a great half term all – stay safe!

School reopens on Monday 7th June 2021.

Term ends on Friday 16th July 2021.

This has been a very busy week in school - one like no other.  The children have been fantastic and many congratulations to all of those who received awards today.

The gifts of kindness across the school throughout this week have been phenomenal.  Well done to Miss Claire Morgans who had a VIP award in our whole school assembly.  Upon driving to school one morning, she came across an injured hedgehog at the side of the road - she picked it up and warmed it with her car heater.  After a visit to the  vet - it fully recovered.  Well done to her.

Good news re lessening Covid restrictions in Foundation Phase classrooms!

Individual/class photos on Tuesday and Wednesday. Years 1 and 3 on Wednesday .

Please remember INSET Closure Days on Thursday 27th and Friday 28th of next week.

    Have a good weekend all.

I hope that all our families are keeping well and that those who celebrated Eid have been able to have a great family celebration  together. I am sure that the last year has made everyone appreciate their loved ones even more. In the same way, it is apparent that the children appreciate school more than ever. Covid restriction has prevented many things at school that we love so much - whole school assemblies, great sing a longs, regular events with parents in school, school trips and especially our older and younger children spending time together  - caring and sharing. Like other schools and settings we have all adapted, glad to be together at school, yet the change is significant and all are to be congratulated.

From next week on, we feel that we have to lessen some restriction around our home school communication books as we cannot lose out on opportunities for our children to read or for communication to be missed. As a consequence, we request that diaries and reading books are returned regularly to school .

Congratulations to everyone who has received an award today in our whole school assembly, particularly those who have shown acts of kindness   - well done all.

    Have a great weekend.

I hope that you all had a good Bank Holiday last weekend.

This week has been exciting in school as the children enjoy more and more time outdoors and are thoroughly engaged in their learning.

It was, as ever, fantastic to see them all during our whole school assembly this afternoon and to learn about the efforts of so many !

You will have received a letter from me today, via text, which informs you of my intention to take early retirement from the end of this academic year. I have been at the school now for some considerable time and as deeply saddened as I am at the thought of leaving it, I do feel that it is the right time for the school to be led by a new figure and for me personally to embark in a new journey. I will, of course miss the children considerably.

The Governors will be appointing a new Headteacher in the coming weeks and will inform you of the outcome.

    Have a good weekend all.
