    Wed 28 Feb 2018 Mrs D Davies

    Dear Parent/Carer,

Due to the severe weather forecast for tomorrow  - Thursday 1st March, it is likely that the school will close at 1.00pm. We shall keep you informed via text, this website and PCC websites. If the snow falls heavily and remains on the ground, this may well  affect Friday opening or usual provision - again , we shall keep you informed in order for you to make relevant arrangements.

Please keep safe during this cold weather.

  • Mrs Davies's Blog Spring Term week 6

    Fri 16 Feb 2018 Mrs D Davies

It has been a quick half term and we are still experiencing illnesses that started before Christmas.

The children have had a great start to 2018, really engaging with their learning across the school.  Our newbie full timers (all 26 of them) have been really big boys and girls settling into the whole school day with no problems.

I thank the parents for supporting our Community assemblies, sports events, parents evenings/workshops etc...  it has been good to have you join us.

We have seen proud, talented and happy children return from the Rotary Gymnastics event this week, , wearing medals, equipped with ribbons and trophies , and our boys Urdd Rugby team won all their matches in Carmarthen on Tuesday - well done all.

We thank 2P for leading our Community assembly this morning and giving the whole school some very important, clear messages about Internet Safety.  The children had such big voices - their presentation was super.  We also had Tracy from PATCH join us and she received a £80 cheque presented by our Head Boy and Head Girl.  Our Y6 children gave  cash donations towards PATCH instead of Christmas presents for their teachers.

I wish you all a great half term - enjoy yourselves and stay safe everyone!

  • Mrs Davies's Blog Spring Term week 5

    Fri 09 Feb 2018 Mrs D Davies

We start our blog this week with a big thank you to 2B for leading our community assembly earlier today, enjoyed by so many families and children this morning.  Well done!

Squash lessons have continued with Y4 this week and are enjoyed by the children.

Throughout the weeks we have seen so many young people produce high quality writing and it has been particularly good to see our younger children in Nursery and Reception trying so hard to further develop their writing skills.  Likewise, we have thoroughly enjoyed reading about Y4's experiences at Caerleon last Friday. Our Year 6 writers' club wrote some fantastic descriptions yesterday and Livvy must be one of the most imaginative writers in school!!!

Reminder to all parents - Parents Evening next week, if you haven't arranged an appointment, please do so.

Discos next Thursday, £1 per ticket in advance:

3:20- 4:00  Nursery (parents to accompany)

    4:10 - 5:00  Y1, Y2 and Y3 (no parents)

    5:10 - 6:00  Y4, Y5 and Y6 (no parents)

Please make arrangements to collect your child at the finishing time.

We have some very talented swimmers who have today represented our school at the Sladen Relay Gala.  Well done to James D, Ben B, Joshua B, Max F, Amy K, Ellie G, Lola B, and Mollie H who have returned to school with Gold Medals and a Trophy!!

    Have a good weekend!

  • Mrs. Davies's Blog Spring Term week 4

    Fri 02 Feb 2018 Mrs. D Davies

As I write at the end of the week, we await the return of our Y4 pupils who have had a great time in Caerleon, finding out even more about the life of Romans.  Well done to them (and parents) for being in school so early and so enthused!  We can't wait to find out their news.

I hope that you have all seen the letter sent home by pupil post today which informs parents of our school categorisation for this year, which driven by our Estyn inspection outcomes, is set as Amber.  This allows the school to receive additional LA support as we work towards our recommendations.  Schools have also been graded A - D on their capacity to improve (A being the highest grade), our school has been categorised as B.

Mrs Dunlop, our Deputy Headteacher is sadly due to leave us at the end of this term.  Mrs Dunlop has experienced some ill health of late and wishes to take early retirement.  We wish her all the best and cannot express how much we shall miss her.  The school hopes to recruit a new Deputy Headteacher in the very near future and will obviously keep you informed.

On Monday, our Year One children started their Kerbcraft program, learning valuable road safety skills. Well Done children!

On Wednesday, Years 3, 4 and 5 enjoyed a Science workshop - Who Wants to be a Superhero?, and today, Construction Club has started with visiting professionals for target groups of learners, promoting confidence and social skills.

Thank you to the parents of Y6 children who attended our family workshop on Wednesday, "Walking through" a Reading National Test paper - we hope to continue more such activities as the term progresses and hope that you will be able to join us.

    Have a good weekend!
