  • Mrs D Davies's Blog - Summer Term Week 8

    Fri 28 Jun 2019 Mrs D Davies

What a good end to a busy week at school. There are so many various points to note.

Well done to our Cricket Team who reached the next round of the Pembrokeshire Cricket this week.  Mr Williams was most impressed with the great sportsmanship demonstrated by the children . The weather was good and the team played well.

Congratulations to all seven of our children who participated yesterday's Primary Prom.

Yesterday our children brought home their annual report packs. It has been a pleasure to read so many positive comments about their learning - throughout the school, we have seen good progress and all achieving so many successes. The pack contained quite considerable information, please do not miss the Oxford Reading Buddy information. Every child has their own unique code which links to a whole library of free e books matched to your child's ability. Just what is needed in time for the Summer holidays.

Today, our children enjoyed transition activities in their new classes. All of our teachers who will be with us in September were at school. We welcomed Miss L Keating to Year 3, Mr R Hill to Year 4 and Miss F Griffiths to Year 5. It was great to see children and staff across the school plan their learning for next term.

The weather is glorious, enjoy your family time together this weekend everyone !

What a great end to the week - children showing off their sporting skills to parents and families.

Time and time again , I marvel at the behaviour of our children - not are they just wonderful to work with, they are a credit to their families and today was no exception. Congratulations to all of our children for their huge efforts and ability to support others. I know that staff will recall so many stories of personal successes.

Our Sports Day has been another special day to remember this academic year. Many thanks to the hundreds of families who joined us at school today

Many of our MoD families had breakfast together at the VC Gallery today and it was another opportunity for them to enjoy this great partnership that seems to be developing so effectively in such a short time.

This time next week we shall be turning our attention towards transition for all of our learners. Our Year 6 children will be spending the day in their secondary schools and everyone else will become more familiar with their new classes.

The end of term seems to be rapidly approaching ………… we still have many, many more special moments to share together between now and then.

Enjoy your family time together this weekend.

  • Mrs Davies' Blog Summer Term Week 6

    Fri 14 Jun 2019 Mrs D Davies

What another great week at school.  We have achieved so much in five days - there are many highlights.

Firstly, congratulations to all the children and staff on securing the Welsh Bronze Award.  We have been working towards this for some time and our assessor was most impressed with the progress made in Welsh Second Language - pupil leadership in this area is a strength of the school - Da Iawn Pawb!

Our Reading Café led by Year 2 on Wednesday was very well attended and staff spoke about how much they enjoyed the company of our families working alongside the children.

Our Cricket Team attended Haverfordwest Cricket Club for a day of sport earlier in the week, unfortunately the rain was so heavy - they had an earlier than expected return to school.  We hope for another attempt next Thursday.

Year 5 and 6 took part in the Growing Up talk alongside our school Nurses this week - thanks to our Health Colleagues for supporting so well!

The week ended with a super assembly led by 2E - the focus upon trying your best/aiming high.  Many thanks to these fabulous young learners who have had such an amazing school year.

Many of our MOD parents and children had breakfast together at the VC Gallery this morning.  The school works in partnership with the Gallery and it is a real delight to have everyone together.  We hope that we are able to continue this over the next few weeks - a wonderful opportunity to get together.

    Have a good weekend!

  • Mrs Davies' Blog Summer Term Week 5

    Fri 07 Jun 2019 Mrs D Davies

The children have had a fine week this week, settling back after the half term break which came upon us so very quickly.  They have worked hard. For us, this week has been relatively quiet.

The highlight of the week, for me without doubt has been staff taking our Year 1 children to the Circus on Wednesday evening.  The topic for our Year 1 children this half term is Lights, Camera, Action which began by having a backstage tour of the Torch Theatre and has extended into finding out more about the Circus performance.  The behaviour and engagement with these still young learners at the end of a school day when many were tired - was exceptional.  They were delightful - a credit to their families and teachers.  Well done Year 1.

Our Reception children were also delightful today in the way that they interacted so inquisitively (and often courageously) with the Silent World creatures this afternoon.

Thank you to Jackson and Olivia in Year 5 who represented our Cluster Schools and had lunch with the Director, Mrs Kate Evan Hughes, earlier today.

On Wednesday, 26th June, we have a Family workshop , which will offer parents, carers and grandparents opportunities to find out more about ACEs ( Adverse Childhood Experiences). This has been in the national media throughout this week and I think that you will find our guest speakers ,fascinating to listen to. If not affected by ACEs yourself, without doubt , you will know someone who has been. You will probably be keen to know what we do here at Prendergast to support children who are adversely affected. Please join us, we shall send a letter out to you next week .

Thank you children for being so great!

    Have a good weekend.
