  • Mrs Davies's Blog Autumn Term 3

    Fri 22 Sep 2017 Mrs D Davies

We have had a great week at school, with the children working hard and in really good spirits. The week has ended very successfully after a very busy Friday. 6C led our Community assembly and gave us all some very important messages about the importance of Peace which I am sure that many of us will remember for a very long time.

Thank you to all those parents who joined us for our Reading Workshops today, in total over fifty parents joined us to receive some tips as to how to support reading at home. The workshops were well received and we shall focus upon Paired Reading at home as the next step. A big well done and thank you to those brave Reciprocal readers in Year 2 and 3 who read so well in front of a large adult audience!! Look out for new Reading diaries which will go home at the end of next week.

I would like to congratulate all our new school leaders for successfully being voted as School Councils, Eco Warriers , JRSO s and many other roles of responsibility at school and I would also, importantly, like to congratulate those that gave fantastic speeches, keen to be appointed but who were not successful - we recognise your skill and talent !!!

Next week will be a another busy week at school - National Poetry Day next Thursday!!

    Have a good weekend.

  • Mrs Davies's Blog Autumn Term Week 2

    Fri 15 Sep 2017 Mrs D Davies

What an exciting week at school with a real buzz when walking around the classrooms in session time. The children are certainly embracing the new term very well and all teachers are pleased with how their children have settled and are focussing upon their new classroom routines and work.

Very big congratulations to our many Iron Kids who did so well last weekend - an excellent example of perseverance and commitment.

A big well done also to those young people who received certificates in assembly this morning - for doing their best, helping others, being a good friend, showing Values... all similar themes . Our teachers spoke about the difficult choices that needed to be made when selecting just the one person to receive the certificate when so many were contenders!!

Forthcoming dates for the school year are available to you with a letter sent home today accompanied with the After School Club list for this term. Please select from the latter if relevant and a reminder to parents about 6C Community assembly and parent Reading workshops next Friday -( please book/ telephone if you wish to attend the workshop).

We look forward to next week and finding out the results of our Elections  - well done all !I am sure that the children would like me to thank Mrs Dixon for her contribution in assembly this morning!!! A real example of courage and dedication to school!

    Have a good weekend everyone.

Fri 08 Sep 2017 Mrs Davies

    Dear Parent/Carer,

I write to welcome you to the start of the academic year. Thank you for preparing the children so well for their return – they are a credit to you – looking so smart and ready to learn. We have had an excellent start to the school year with classes settling well into their new routines.

Well done to our new children, I remind their parents and more of you who know the school well that if you have any query or concern – please let us know, there is always someone available to help. Our school website will keep you informed of news in addition to our half termly newsletters and our drop-in clinics will continue throughout this year.

    Wednesday 9.00 – 10.00am - Wellbeing – Mrs Morris

    Thursday 9.00 – 10.00am - Additional Learning Needs – Mrs Dunlop

    Friday 9.00 – 10.00am - Forces Families – Mrs K Reynolds

Over the next couple of weeks, we shall be sending home our ‘Dates for Diaries’ and Family Learning opportunities for the forthcoming term. In advance of this, I can confirm that our first INSET Day is Monday 2nd October 2017 (school will be closed to pupils on this day).

Our Estyn report has now been published which you will be able to access on our school website and at

    https://www.estyn.gov.wales/sites/default/files/documents/Prendergast%20Community%20School.pdf

We shall be involving parents in our plans to address our recommendations with our first event being held on Friday 22nd September 2017, when you will have the opportunity to receive some ideas as to how you can support your child’s reading at home – looking at different strategies, how to comment positively in school diaries, tips for reading for enjoyment/accelerating reading and more about how we teach reading at school and the way forward. I hope that many of you are able to join us.
